Clarity Research Initiatives

Clarity is dedicated to improving the health and lifestyle of America's aging population. Over the past three years Clarity has commissioned three independent studies to examine the issues, concerns and needs of Baby Boomers and Seniors.

2004 Baby Boomer Hearing Loss Study - The inaugural study, released in 2004, looked at the occurence, cause and impact of hearing loss on the Baby Boomer population, ages 40 to 59. The research revealed that half of the 76 million Baby Boomers in the U.S. are experiencing some degree of hearing loss, and although they were aware of available solutions, most were not seeking help to remedy their hearing loss.

2006 Baby Boomer Hearing Loss Study - The second study released in 2006 delved deeper in to the affects of hearing loss on the Boomer generation and found that hearing loss is significantly impacting their lives at work, home and while traveling. Almost one-fourth (23%) of these individuals said their hearing loss is affecting their success in the workplace, while 25% said hearing loss is affecting their earning potential. The areas of their work that are most affected are hearing and understanding phone calls and conversations with co-workers.

Aging in Place in America - While hearing loss is a major concern among aging people, Clarity recognizes the host of changes aging people encounter and seeks to offer holistic solutions to allow seniors to retain their independence and dignity. The most recent study surveyed seniors and Baby Boomers with aging parents to identify concerns and issues related to aging in place and to learn about the need for new technology solutions to enable independent living and aging in place. The study produced compelling results, perhaps most salient seniors said they fear loss of independence and moving into a nursing home more than they fear death. The study also found that seniors are relatively technology savvy, and are open to new technologies that will allow them to age in place.

Clarity's research and development team continues to explore new solutions -- including advanced monitoring technology -- that can improve the home of the future and meet the changing needs of our elderly. The company is developing strategic alliances with other like-minded organizations to improve care for our seniors and produce more innovative solutions. Clarity is inspired by seniors, driven to help them and truly invested in this important group that many technology companies have left behind.
